HPE Aruba Outdoor & Industrial Access Points

The 570 Series uses Wi-Fi 6 and delivers up to 2.69 Gbps aggregate, suited to outdoor environments where the client device base does not yet support 6E or 7. The 670 Series uses Wi-Fi 6E, adding the 6 GHz band to more than double available capacity to 3.9 Gbps, and is the right choice where congestion in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands is limiting performance. The 760 Series uses Wi-Fi 7, adding Multilink Operation for lower latency and faster failover across bands, delivering up to 5.8 Gbps — suited to high-density outdoor venues, industrial sites, and environments expecting significant growth in connected device density.

Standard models such as the AP-675 and AP-765 carry IP66/IP67 ratings for full dust and water ingress protection and suit most outdoor and industrial environments. Connectorised models such as the AP-674 and AP-764 use external antenna connectors instead of built-in antennas, allowing directional or specialist antennas to be fitted for deployments with specific coverage patterns such as long outdoor corridors or warehouse aisles. EX models in both the 670 and 760 Series carry Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2 certification, meaning they are approved for environments where flammable gases, vapours, or dust may be present — such as oil rigs, petrochemical facilities, and mining sites.

Outdoor access points in the 670 and 760 Series operate as Standard Power devices in the 6 GHz band. This allows higher transmit power than Low Power Indoor devices — improving outdoor range — but requires the access point to consult an Automated Frequency Coordination service before enabling the 6 GHz radio, to avoid interfering with incumbent outdoor services such as microwave links. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios operate regardless. AFC authorisation is handled automatically by the access point; it is not a manual step for the installer.

All series include integrated high-power Bluetooth Low Energy and 802.15.4/Zigbee radios for connecting IoT sensors, asset trackers, and industrial monitoring devices directly through the access point. The 760 Series adds a USB port for connecting additional IoT devices that use other wireless protocols. Advanced IoT Coexistence filtering prevents the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee radios from interfering with each other during concurrent operation — which matters in industrial environments where radio frequency conditions are already challenging.

The 570 Series operates on standard 802.3at PoE (30W). The 670 and 760 Series require 802.3bt Class 6 (60W) to power all radios and IoT functions at full capability. When connecting an outdoor access point using an indoor PoE switch, HPE recommends shielded twisted pair Ethernet cable and an Ethernet surge protector at the cable entry point to protect against voltage spikes caused by lightning or electrical interference. The 670EX and 760EX HazLoc models require specific cable glands to maintain their hazardous location certification.

All models in the 670 and 760 Series include an embedded GPS receiver that allows the access point to self-locate, removing the need to manually record AP positions on a site map. The 760 Series adds support for IEEE 802.11az Fine Time Measurement for sub-metre precision, relevant for industrial asset tracking and location-critical workflows. In outdoor environments where GPS signal is available at the roofline or elevated mounting point, this self-location capability also improves the accuracy of any client location measurements derived from the access point.
